What to Wear Wednesday | Dressing a Larger Bust

First off let me say I can write about this for a couple reasons.

1. I’m a photographer and see what looks good through the lens and not. I’m honest. I want you to love your images. I want you to cover those tatas for photos so you love your images.

2. I am large busted and understand the battle.

So to make you LOOK  YOUR BEST in the photos and have the attention on your family and not “the girls” here are some super in style items to avoid in photo sessions.

Avoid stripes in the bust area. Heck for that matter in photo sessions let’s just avoid stripes period. Because…..

no stripes
Avoid high necks and low v-necks.

Enough said. However if you must wear a high neck add a statement necklace to give a visual break up of the larger area.

Avoid vests and many layers.

I know us photographers love layers in photos but those layers are only going to add a couple sizes to your silhouette. Sure stylish but being caught mid hug with your child with all that bunching and layering…not flattering.

Choose v-necks (not loose), wrap shirts and ballet necklines.

Still confused! Visit this website just for us to help out.

Here’s another great combinations to help you out in this department.

What to Wear Wednesday | Choosing Your Wardrobe

Let’s get real – this is probably one of the hardest parts of getting ready for a photo session. A Client always needs help and even if you are not a client yet…please ask for help in this area as clothes can at times make or break a cherished family moment.. I’m a fashion maven in training after years of being asked “What Do I Wear?”  So I have decided to devote a weekly post to share my knowledge. Of course it will be ever changing and won’t always be what to wear but I can guarantee that it will help you in photo shoots.

Below are {4} steps that will  process that I will walk you through using a sample bored I have created.

What to Wear Wednesday 11. COLOR

On my sample board I seriously Googled “spring colors” and chose this eye shadow palette by Dior. Now I know what colors to mix together. That’s right I said mix!  A color palette can be anything from eye color to an article of clothing to a painting…it is all about your own personal tastes.  What makes you smile? Save this color palette to your computer or print it. You will be using it!

This will help in deciding if you need formal, casual, bright, layered, etc. This is super important if you want those Pinterest worthy family photo images! Also ask your photographer any suggestions they  may have as well.

3. SHOP

Don’t wait until the day before your session. You will be in your own personal hell. Start a month or two before your session. Especially if your order online like I do. That will give you time to get the item and return for another size if necessary. Don’t know where to shop? Where do you find you get clothes that make you the most comfortable? For me it would be Athleta but we can’t get our family photos done in our stretchy pants so then I would say Nordstroms OR Piperlime for myself and Monsoon for my kids – great selection and easy returns. Now start choosing items that have the colors from the palette. They don’t have to match. They just have to compliment. Once you have chosen your outfit then base your kids and husband around them. They are the easiest to dress. You – the woman – are the hardest. I just know this from personal experience..

Once you have chosen your outfits, lay them on a flat surface, take a picture and send it to your photographer. Now he or she can choose props to compliment your session wardrobe.

Friendly reminder – I am always available to help clients and future clients with their Wardrobe 101 questions.  Feel free to share your images on Instagram with #becauselifeisart and #whattowearwednesday.

Now get to starting your own style board – don’t forget to share it too! We are all in this game of life together – might as well help each other out a bit.

Claire | Nashville Child Photographer

I met Miss Claire and her mom last year and was so excited when her mom reached out again to photograph Miss Spunky-pants Claire. Are all Claire’s spunky pants? We had so much fun exploring the streets of Nashville. It reminded me how much I missed downtown urban photography with kiddos. This was also probably the last warm day of the year. Enjoy the warmth of this session on this cooooolllllllddddd January day.

As a thank you Claire’s mom will receive a special gift when her blog post reaches 25+ comments.

Meet Rhett. Oh such a cutie and that smile! I was so excited to finally meet him after his parent’s summer maternity session.  This was one of my first in home newborn sessions in a while and I just love how it turned out. His parents were so amazing and had such great ideas!

Please note that the letter R image and guitar are composites and his dad spotted him at all times. Please do not stick a baby on a prop unattended. Thanks!

*As a thank you Rhett’s parents will receive a gift when their blog receives 25+ comments.
