If you’re searching for a Nashville family photo location that feels a little different, FloraHaüs is one of those spaces that immediately gives a session personality.
Tucked away in Madison, just north of Nashville, FloraHaüs Nashville is a glass greenhouse filled with greenery, weathered wood, vintage details and beautiful natural light. The property also gives us room to move outside the greenhouse for a completely different look without changing locations.
For this family session, we photographed inside the greenhouse, on the front steps, around the exterior and out in the surrounding yard. The result was a gallery that feels warm, relaxed and connected—with plenty of variety.
And that is exactly what I want from a great portrait location.
Why I Love FloraHaüs for Family Photography
The biggest advantage of FloraHaüs is texture.
Instead of photographing against one pretty backdrop for an entire session, there are layers everywhere: old glass windows, wood, brick, plants, hanging lights, dried florals and the surrounding trees.
The greenhouse itself is relatively intimate—approximately 12' x 20'—which actually works beautifully for family photography. It naturally brings everyone closer together and creates opportunities for those relaxed, connected images that don't feel overly posed.
Then we can step outside and create wider portraits where the greenhouse becomes part of the background.
That combination gives you both intimate portraits and environmental images in the same gallery.
What to Wear for Photos at FloraHaüs
This is one of those locations where wardrobe matters.
There is already quite a bit happening visually, so I recommend choosing clothing that complements the environment rather than competing with it.
The family pictured here did this beautifully. The warm rust dress paired with cream, taupe, brown and muted gray-green feels intentional without looking overly coordinated.
For FloraHaüs, I especially love:
- Warm neutrals: cream, oatmeal, camel, chocolate and taupe
- Earth tones: rust, terracotta, olive, sage and muted green
- Soft textures: linen, knits, gauze, subtle embroidery and flowing fabrics
- Simple patterns: understated texture or tonal patterns rather than bold prints
I generally recommend choosing two or three complementary colors and layering in neutrals instead of putting everyone in matching outfits.
The goal isn't for everyone to look identical.
It's for everyone to look like they belong in the same photograph.

Choosing the Right Location for Your Family Photos
FloraHaüs won't be the perfect location for every family—and that's actually important.
I don't believe in choosing a location simply because it's pretty.
Your location should support the feeling you want your photographs to have.
FloraHaüs is particularly beautiful if you want something that feels earthy, artistic, slightly bohemian and a little unexpected. The plants and decorative elements can also change seasonally, so no two sessions necessarily look exactly alike.
But Middle Tennessee gives us completely different options depending on your family's style.
You might want downtown architecture and movement. You may want an open field at sunset. Maybe your family feels more like wildflowers, creek beds and bare feet—or perhaps you want something clean and polished in the studio.
That's why location planning is part of creating your session rather than something I consider an afterthought.

Some of My Favorite Middle Tennessee Photo Locations
I photograph families throughout Nashville, Franklin, Columbia and Middle Tennessee, and I've built a list of locations that photograph beautifully while offering very different aesthetics.
For example, downtown Franklin gives us historic architecture, brick, sidewalks and a more polished city feel. Columbia offers charming downtown streets along with more rustic options nearby. Farms and natural areas give us fields, trees, flowers and beautiful evening light.
And then there are locations like FloraHaüs that don't fit neatly into any category—which is precisely what makes them interesting.
Your Family Photos Should Feel Like Your Family
The best family sessions aren't about getting everyone to stand perfectly and smile at the camera.
We'll absolutely create the photograph where everyone is looking.
But we'll also let your child climb into your lap. I'll photograph the hug that turns into laughter. I'll pull parents aside for a photograph together. I'll photograph each child individually.
Those smaller combinations are what turn a session into a complete family gallery.
And when we pair that approach with a location that already has personality, the photographs begin to feel much more like you.
If you're planning family photos in Nashville, Franklin, Columbia or anywhere in Middle Tennessee, I'll help you choose a location and wardrobe that work together beautifully.
